Hal Sisson's Biography

Hal's interest in the visual arts has it's roots in being invited to paint landscapes along with his grandmother in his early youth. Additional encouragement by his art instructor during his primary and secondary years led to his decision to pursue it as a vocation.

As a member of an agricultural based family located in Andover, New York, he spent his entire youth observing the beauty of nature, learning the virtues of dedicated work and appreciating the opportunity to absorb, through the miracle of eyesight, the multitude of colors, textures, shape and forms in his surroundings.

His formal education includes an AAS Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in Advertising Design and Production, a BFA in Education from Alfred University and a MFA in Education from Elmira College. Since 1973 he has been a Secondary Art Instructor at Addison Central School in Addison, New York.

His work ranges from landscapes to model making. Emphasis on what he learned to appreciate in his youth is apparent in much of his subject matter. Favorite media include: oils, pencil, wood and watercolor.

In addition to his duties as a teacher, Hal also spends his spring and summer months lettering stock cars for the local dirt tracks. His most recent project is his garden and strawberry patch. He can also say that he had a (large) hand in helping to build his own house.

Hal currently lives in Addison, New York with his wife Christy. He has three children: twin daughters and a son (you can see work by one of the twins and his son under the "It's Hereditary" page).
